Contributing To Drupal Watchdog

If you wish to contribute to Drupal Watchdog, please review our Submission Guidelines and then create a user account.

We accept four types of content:

  • Shorts: A "short" is a very brief piece of content together with a single image. They range from 75 to 90 words, for which we'll pay from $25 to $45.
  • Articles: The majority of all submissions are articles. They range from 900 to 950 words, for which we'll pay from $270 to $340. Articles should include at least one or two pieces of supporting content, including images, tables, charts, screenshots and/or sidebar text.
  • Feature Articles: We are accepting a much smaller number of feature articles. They range from 2,000 words to 2,200 words, for which we'll pay from $800 to $1,110. Feature articles must include multiple pieces of supporting content, such as images, tables, charts, screenshots and/or sidebar text.
  • Columns: Columns are themed content that appear from issue to issue. Columnists must commit to writing their column all year. They range from 575 to 725 words, for which we'll pay from $300 to $375. Columns should include one or two pieces of supporting content.

The amount we will pay for your submission depends on the quality of your writing and supporting materials, the relevance of the content, and the timeliness of your submission.

Volume #3 Issue #1: Getting Into Drupal
At this time we're only accepting proposals for Volume #3 Issue #1, which will be available in March of 2013. To contribute to this issue of Drupal Watchdog, you must meet the following deadlines:

  • Rough draft: By November 28th, 2012 we must receive a rough draft of your article.
  • Images & supporting media: By December 8th, 2012 we must receive all supporting content (images, tables, code snippets, etc) for your article.
  • Final draft: By January 15th, 2013 we must receive a final draft of your article and supporting content.

The editorial process will start when you first upload your rough draft. The sooner you are able to provide a rough draft, the more input you can have in the editorial process.

Contract and Copyright:
We do not guarantee to purchase all articles submitted. If we do purchase an article, payment is for first rights, compilation rights, and translation rights. We are under no obligation to publish articles we purchase, and we do not pay kill fees.

When you submit an article, you agree to not submit the article anywhere else unless 1) you explicitly notify us in writing that you have withdrawn your proposal and you then receive a written (emailed) confirmation from Tag1 Publishing freeing you from this contract, or 2) we reject your article for inclusion in this magazine. We are only unable to approve requests for withdrawing articles if they are already scheduled for publication.

By submitting an article you are agreeing to allow us to use your article in an unlimited number of compilations and translations in any medium. Two weeks after your article has been published online, or six months after it is published in print, you are free to use it for any other purpose, as you retain the copyright on your article. You agree to not publish any article you have sold to Drupal Watchdog in any way until it has first been published by Drupal Watchdog either in print or online.
